A B O U T D E S G A R R I T Y
Des Garrity was born into an Irish Catholic family in the West of Scotland in 1932, and was educated by Jesuit priests. He left for Canada when he was twenty-three, after qualifying as a chartered accountant, and was soon joined by Maura O’Sullivan, whom he had met in the West of Ireland. They were married in New York in 1956, and lived first in Montreal, then New York city, and Connecticut for the next thirty years.
Des spent several years in the accounting profession, both in Montreal and New York, before working for several Fortune 500 companies.
Des and Maura now live mostly in Portmarnock, north of Dublin, beside the Irish Sea, although they spend part of the year in Charleston, South Carolina.
